Lecturer Lars Graebner, principal of VolumeOne/Detroit, along with principal Christina Hansen, and team members Xu Yukun with local China contact architects at Studio Qi, Hefei, China, were awarded first prize in the design and build competition for the Anhui Province Acrobatic Hall, Hefei, Anhui Province, China. The 420,000.00 square-foot building consists of a stage for the Anhui Province Acrobats, hotel, exhibition, retail, as well as educational spaces.
Hefei is the capital of the Province of Anhui where the Anhui Acrobatic Troupe was founded in December 1956. Over nearly five decades, the troupe has visited more than fifty countries, including Japan, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Great Britain, Italy, the United States, Sweden, France, and other countries in South Asia and Africa. It is one of China’s best-known acrobatic troupes abroad. The troupe has won many international awards, starting with both Gold and Silver Medals at the 10th Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demain in Paris in 1987.
