Lecturer Irene Hwang’s lecture “Unpracticed” at Northeastern University explores the tensions within architectural practice

Architecture Lecturer Irene Hwang presented a lecture, “;Unpracticed,” on October 17, 2011, at Northeastern University School of Architecture. She began the lecture comparing an AK-47 sub-machine gun with a suburban home. The seemingly unrelated nature of the comparison introduced the larger subject of her work and research into the power of the architectural mindset to tackle broader issues of space and experience. Hwang explores how intentionally clashing the demands of the intellectual project of architectural education with the practical concerns of the profession produces a potent means by which to affect the world at large.
