Taubman students participate in winning teams of ArtsEngine, intense three-day competition

Architecture undergraduate students Courtney Duffey, Simon Anton and Helena Kang were part of winning teams of ArtsEngine, a UM North Campus initiative promoting interdisciplinary creative work, November 4-6, 2011. The three day challenge involved creating teams that include students from at least 3 different UM schools and colleges and limited them to working with reused materials, a budget of $50 and 42-hours to complete the project. Winners of second place honors, Anton and Kang, collaborated with School of Music, Theater & Dance undergraduate Emily Graber and LSA undergraduate student Abraham Morrison to create a portable, featherweight one-person tent made from mylar snack bags, discarded plastic sheeting, and PVC tubing. Duffy was one of the third place winners, along with College of Engineering undergraduate students Benjamin Mason and Daniel Connors and School of Art & Design undergraduate student Teshia Treuhaft. Their team designed a new system of cardboard packaging to reduce paper waste and fuel for transport. Their foldable cardboard material can be scored in various ways so that it can efficiently, and safely, wrap objects of varying sizes.
