Markiewicz Receives National AICP Outstanding Student Award
CHICAGO – Alexandra Markiewicz, a Master of Urban Planning student of Taubman College was selected as a 2015 American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) Outstanding Student. The AICP Outstanding Student award is presented annually to one undergraduate and one graduate student of Planning Accreditation Board-accredited planning programs by the American Institute of Certified Planners, the professional institute of the American Planning Association.
The AICP Outstanding Student Award recognizes outstanding attainment in the study of planning. Selection and award criteria are determined by each university, but may include academic achievement, leadership, commitment to the planning profession and community service.

Alexandra Markiewicz was selected by Taubman College faculty for her significant contributions in the classroom and the community. Her academic performance is exemplary; she is always deeply engaged with the material, and she is known to be a solid contributor in team projects. Also, her contributions as a research assistant for several faculty members has been consistently outstanding, and she has shared her skills locally by working with the City of Ann Arbor. She has added much to the Taubman College program through several volunteer leadership roles, including Editor-in-Chief of the student-led journal, Agora, and she was a Steering Committee member and Treasurer of the local chapter of Planners Network. She has also been a terrific administrator for the Network on European Communications and Transport Activity Research (NECTAR) conference which the college will be hosting in June, 2015.
“The AICP Outstanding Student Award recognizes individuals that have demonstrated strong leadership qualities early in their planning career,” said Monica Groh, director of APA’s Emerging Professionals. “We are pleased to be able to acknowledge the hard work of students that represent the future of the planning profession.”
The American Institute of Certified Planners provides recognized leadership nationwide in certification of professional planners, ethics, professional development, planning education and the standards of planning practice. More than 15,000 individuals have earned certification.
