Thacher Published in The Marshall Project on Broken Windows Policing

Associate Professor David Thacher is featured in The Marshall Project for his article, “Don’t End Broken Windows Policing, Fix it.”

The Marshall Project is a nonprofit, nonpartisan online news publication emphasizing storytelling and social change. In his article, Thacher comments on the policing of black urban neighbors. Thacher discusses the significance of distinguishing between policing in neighborhoods versus policing in crime, and how these two distinct areas have overlapped. He argues that an end to Broken Windows policing “are calls to deprive black communities of an essential dimension of police service that wealthy white communities take for granted.”

Thacher serves a joint appointment with Taubman College and the Ford School of Public Policy.
