Larsen Advocates for Livable Cities While Fighting Climate Change, Hot Weather

Larissa Larsen, associate professor of urban planning, is quoted in a Michigan Research article about climate change research. Larsen notes that the effects of extreme heat may come as a surprise to Michigan residents and identifies how intentionally using sustainable urban planning might help mitigate some effects of climate change in urban environments. She suggests, for example, that increasing vegetation in cities can both provide shade and manage pollution in dense urban areas.

Larsen is a contributor to the Michigan Climate and Health Report 2015.  This report represents a collaborative effort of professionals from multiple disciplines, trying to identify and predict how climate change will impact various health outcomes in Michigan.
