White House names Baja (MUP ‘11)  Climate Equity Champions of Change

Kristin Baja (MUP ’11), Climate and Resilience Planner at the City of Baltimore Office of Sustainability, will be honored at the White House July 15, 2016, as one of ten “Champions of Change for Climate Equity.” This recognition celebrates professionals working to prepare the most vulnerable populations to identify and ameliorate areas of weakness before major climate-related disasters. Her responsibilities at the City of Baltimore Office of Sustainability, include management of outreach/communication for climate change issues and planning for resiliency, as well as administration of the Disaster Preparedness Project and Plan (DP3) from development through tracking. The American Society of Adaptation Planners, which serves to provide a mechanism for collaboration among communities working to develop resilience in the face of climate change, also recognized Kristin last year for her efforts.

Baja completed her dual master’s degree from the Urban and Regional Planning Program and the School of Natural Resources and the Environment in 2011.  Her academic preparation and several internships prepared her for a professional career focused on climate change and sustainability planning in the public sector, enabling her to move into a position at the City of Ann Arbor immediately after graduation, where she assisted with the development of its Climate Action Plan and Sustainability Framework and directed the South State Street Corridor Study.

The “Champions for Change for climate Equity” event will be live streamed on the White House website at www.whitehouse.gov/live/ on Friday, July 15, at 2:30 PM ET.
