Firms led by two U-M Taubman College faculty members are among the 10 winners of the inaugural Commerce Design: Detroit awards, presented by Design Core Detroit and AIA Detroit.
Lecturer Joel Schmidt’s firm, D-MET, won an award for the Midtown showroom of Advance Heating and Plumbing Supply Co. M1/DTW, which is led by Christian Unverzagt, an associate professor of practice in architecture, was honored for the Detroit winery House of Pure Vin.
Three firms associated with U-M Taubman College alumni were also recognized. McIntosh Poris Associates, led by Michael McIntosh, B.S. ’85, was honored for the Detroit Foundation Hotel. Touloukian Touloukian Inc., led by Susan Touloukian, B.S. ’91, M.Arch ’94, and Theodore Touloukian, M.Arch ’94, was recognized for the Lumen Detroit project. The firm et al. Collaborative, which includes David Iannuzzi, M.Arch ’06, and Kristen Smith, née Dean, B.S. ’02, M.Arch. ’07, as a principals, were recognized for New Order Coffee Roasters.
