Under the theme CLIMATES: Actions for Good Living, the XIII Ibero-American Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism serves as a venue to debate contemporary practices in architecture, urbanism, and territory and expand the capacity for action and impact of these professions in the face of mounting global crises. This entails revising the limits and possibilities of work, searching for new meanings, processes, and rules, and co-producing and disseminating new knowledge toward the production of more sustainable, just, and plural futures.
This year’s BIAU edition will be held in Lima during the first week of December. The call for submissions seeks to recognize architectural and urbanistic projects that offer alternative and innovative solutions for inhabiting and caring for the planet. The submission deadline closes in early September, and the jury’s decisions will be published at the end of October. Two new categories – “New Rules” and “Other Coordinates” – expand the opportunities for participation beyond the four standard categories – “Works,” “Professional Achievement,” “Publications,” and “Pedagogies.”
The XIII BIAUis convened by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda (MIVAU) through the General Secretariat for Urban Agenda, Housing, and Architecture, in collaboration with the Higher Council of the Spanish Architects’ Associations (CSCAE) and the Arquia Foundation. This year’s edition is commissioned to a team of architects from Peru and Spain and includes Taubman College’s María Arquero de Alarcón, along with Elizabeth Añaños Vega, Emilio Ontiveros de la Fuente, Gary Leggett Cahuas, José Luis Villanueva Castañeda, and Luis Rodríguez Rivero.
