Caterpillar

Designing new interactions between ground and structure can find form at the intersection of land stewardship efforts and natural ecosystems. Constructed for an exhibition we curated for the 2021 Detroit Month of Design, Caterpillar is a garden arch re-imagined as an interspecies habitat. Playful arrangements of off-the-shelf planting supports merge into a structure that is light yet permanent, cheap yet not cheap-looking. The expressive shapes and colors stand in for the plants that will eventually
overtake the ever-changing living structure.
