Post Office that brings Dutch design principles to West Michigan town known for its Dutch heritage. Studio’s theme of “rock, paper, smartphone” materializes in a carefully curated material palette. Brick [rock] serves as a steady grounding element. Wood [paper] supports and organizes spaces. Channel glass [smartphone] draws attention by glowing at night. The building is subdivided into 10′ wide NS running bays that can be traced from the benches near the street to the loading docks in back. This attention to detail highlights the importance of intentional civic design—a building strategy lacking in America today but not in the Netherlands.
