What happens after hours? Once closed, a post office remains just that. This adaptive reuse project reimagines it as a shed-like structure, extending beyond postal services into a flexible community space in Detroit. Featuring a transformable warehouse with movable shelves, carts, and conveyor belts, it adapts to various uses. Inspired by Detroit’s artistic and musical heritage, it can host events, fostering community engagement. The heavy existing brick perimeter contrasts with delicate skylights and a lightweight structure, balancing solidity and openness. The design explores the dynamic tension between fixed and adaptable elements, allowing spaces to shift with time and function.
