Vault House: Redo

As a budget hostel and bird sanctuary, this house reimagines the formal typologies of Johnston Marklee’s Vault House to create an enjoyable place for transient guests and migratory fauna within its new urban context. In a similar fashion to the original Vault House, the hostel prioritizes the permeation of a single directed view, captured by its ocular front window, through the entire structure. In contrast to the Vault House’s antisocial design, however, this hostel aims to engage itself with more of its surroundings than just the view, fostering social interaction and creating spaces to be enjoyed by humans and animals…
