Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Planning
Born and raised in Dang, western part of Nepal, Apil K C has a bachelor’s degree in architecture and master’s degree in urban planning Institute of Engineering, Pulchowk Campus, from Tribhuvan University, Nepal. He’s been involved in both academia as well as in professional field since 2012. Before embarking on his Ph.D. journey, Apil served as a faculty member within the Department of Architecture at various engineering colleges in Nepal, while also contributing his expertise as an Urban Planning Consultant for diverse local and regional projects across Nepal. His works ranged from comprehensive plans with local government to policy documents for central government. He’s been involved as Research associate and Planning Consultant for various projects at Institute of Engineering and other development partners as JICA, World Bank, UNDP and WWF.
He was also awarded a fellowship for 2013 Ando training program in Osaka, Japan and DAAD research grant at Cologne University, Germany, 2014-2015. His research interest includes inclusive planning, urban resilience, urban governance, and public participation in planning. Apil also served as General Secretary (2021-2023) for Society of Nepalese Architects, and writes regularly Op-Ed and columns in National daily’s, on the subject related with contemporary architecture and planning practices.
