Office dA’s design for John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design at Toronto received 2010 P/A Award

The 57th annual Progressive Architecture Awards recognized nine projects that exemplified the speculative value of progressive design. In collaboration with architect of record Adamson Associates Architects, landscape architect Coen + Partners, and others, this renovation and expansion project impressed the jurors for it’s innovative solutions to the client’s needs.

A new cladding is built around the existing structure, giving the building a unified image that articulates a larger idea about the site through the way it engages its surroundings, while also improving the building’s environmental performance. A public promenade is integrated into the program, from the urban context, through the core of the building, all the way to the terrace rooftop. By creating visual, accessible and programmatic links between the various disciplines, the building’s interior is transformed as a place of learning, while its altered massing reconfigures the city’s skyline.

This is Office dA’s twelfth P/A Award.

Office dA is managed by U-M Taubman College Dean Monica Ponce de Leon and partner Nader Tehrani.
