Sirota creates installation in Harmonie Park

A commissioned architectural installation entitled “The Very Thought of You,” has been designed by Assistant Professor Anya Sirota and her firm Akoaki.

The project creates an outdoor ballroom where park visitors can enjoy concerts, dance, and visit an art exhibition. The installation consists of a light steel structure dressed with a double-sided skin. Vinyl perforated in patterns on the side facing the park suggests classical baroque ornamentation. The exterior facade, designed in collaboration with a group of contemporary artists, including Carr Center Emergent Arts Fellow Erin Falker, reflects the multicultural energy of the city of Detroit.

Sirota collaborated with the University of Michigan Carr Center Design Fellows, the City of Detroit Recreation Department, and Taubman College’s FABLab to create the installation which opened July 13 and will be up until September 23, 2014 at Detroit’s Harmonie Park.
