Ray Gives Expertise on A+E's "The Universe" about Roman Temple Discovery
RAY GIVES EXPERTISE ON A+E’S “THE UNIVERSE” ABOUT ROMAN TEMPLE DISCOVERY
Architecture Professor of Practice Mary-Ann Ray provided expert commentary on A+E Television Network, “The Universe” Season 9 (2015), on Roman Engineering. Ray discovered an architectural effect of the summer solstice on a Roman temple, Roccabruna Tower at Hadrian’s Villa. Her findings indicate the temple was built in such a way to take full advantage of the summer solstice and its direct sunlight which shone through into the temple, highlighting a space. Speculation is that the sun’s rays were highlighting a statue, but the mystery remains of what. Ray provides insight on this discovery in the episode about the ancient Roman sun cult and Roman engineering.
