Faculty Arts Ambassador; State of the Arts

Newell selected as inaugural U-M Faculty Arts Ambassador

Taubman College’s Catie Newell has been selected to serve as one of the University of Michigan’s first Faculty Arts Ambassadors as part of a new outreach effort. The Arts Initiative program supports two U-M faculty members bringing community-centered arts experiences to Northern Michigan this summer.

Designed to expand access to the arts and strengthen connections between U-M and communities statewide, the program supports participatory events co-created with local partners. Faculty ambassadors receive project funding, travel support, and a stipend, along with logistical and marketing support from the Arts Initiative.

Newell, professor of architecture, will offer artist talks, hands-on workshops, and open studio experiences on “Objects for Passing: Art for Grief, Care & Life Transitions” in partnership with the Dennos Museum Center in Traverse City and Crooked Tree Arts Center in Petoskey.
