This project aims to maximize the potential of the newly established Joe Louis Greenway, envisioning it as a transformative force for Detroit’s revival. The Guerrilla Green Belt becomes a strategic solution to address key issues: pollution, food insecurity, and low tree canopy coverage. Through a community-driven, bottom-up approach, adjacent vacant lots will be converted into vibrant green spaces featuring native trees and urban farms. The interventions foster an increase in biodiversity and tree canopy while reducing pollution. Thus, the Green Belt becomes the pulsating core of a grassroots project, instilling hope for a healthier, greener, and more self-sufficient Detroit.
