Same, same but different

“Same, Same but Different” is an inter-generational, multifamily housing project in the heart of Detroit that looks at combining the individuality of single multi-family homes with the compact amenities of an urban
village. The project is split into two distinct residential blocks – one is an adaptive reuse of the existing school onsite and one, a new build – that respond to each other with a connecting element that bisects through them, creating a third and more social gathering space. It provides options for the possible range of people who may occupy the units with adjustable facades and ornate finishing, taking inspiration from the gothic cathedral adjacent to the site. Same. Same. But Different.
