Viable Energy District: Transition Land Use to Energy Equity

In an effort to sustain the social, economic, and cultural traditions of agriculture in Michigan’s River Raisin community, a special purpose district will be established. Focused on stabilizing and speculating on the future of agriculture practices, this district aims to enrich energy efficiency and equity to the community through biomass energy systems and community-based internet infrastructures. Created by the people of a community to deliver specialized services, the proposed Viable Energy District will obtain its authority directly from the community it serves through a governing body that works independently from other government agencies in order to fulfill the mission of the district. As a model for the future of agriculture practices and energy equity, this District hopes to educate the residents of Southeast Michigan on the importance of land relations and our natural resources.
