Why did you choose Taubman College as the right program for you?
I chose Taubman College because, after completing my undergraduate studies here, I came to appreciate how the curriculum pushes students to think critically and creatively about design, far beyond just producing drawings.
What is special or excites you about the Taubman community?
I fell in love with the sense of community and the collaborative studio culture, which has been an inspiring and supportive environment for my growth as a designer.
If applicable, tell us about studio culture – what is inspiring or innovative or unique?
I love the studio culture at Taubman. I’ve formed lifelong friendships in the studio that have helped me through challenging times, whether it’s tough projects, personal struggles, or moments of doubt. There’s a unique bond that forms because we’re all in it together, supporting one another in ways that go beyond just academics.
Describe your experience with faculty and professional staff during your time at Taubman?
My experience with Taubman’s faculty and professional staff has been incredibly positive. They’ve always been responsive and willing to help whenever I’ve sought guidance or support.
How has Taubman’s career and professional development support prepared you for a successful career in your chosen field?
My personal experience with Taubman’s career and professional development support has been incredibly valuable. I attended the career fair, which led to an internship that ultimately became my job for nearly two years. Without that opportunity, I wouldn’t have known where to start in taking my first step into the professional world of architecture. The career fair and guidance from Taubman really helped bridge the gap between academics and the industry, giving me the connections to succeed.
What benefits have you experienced being part of the University of Michigan?
Being part of the University of Michigan has provided me with access to a wealth of resources. One standout experience for me was utilizing the university’s gaming archive for a project where I was creating my own game. I had the unique opportunity to explore and play classic games, something I likely wouldn’t have been able to experience at many other institutions.
What do you like most about being part of the Ann Arbor community?
What I enjoy most about being part of the Ann Arbor community is its vibrant and picturesque environment. The downtown area is always full of life, offering a dynamic experience with plenty to see and do. And no matter where you take a walk, the scenery is beautiful, making each outing enjoyable.
What advice would you give prospective students as they consider Taubman College?
My advice to prospective students considering Taubman College is to carefully evaluate their living situation. Ann Arbor can be an expensive city to live in, so it’s important to plan your budget and housing options in advance. Understanding the cost of living and finding a comfortable place to stay will help you focus more on your studies and make the most of your time at Taubman.
What are your plans after graduation?
Honestly, my plan after graduation is to go with the flow and explore as many opportunities as I can. I intend to reach out to big firms, request visits, and immerse myself in different experiences within the field. I’m young, and this is the perfect time to be out there and discover what resonates with me.
Additional advice or thoughts you’d like to share with prospective students?
Regardless of what project is due or how much homework you have, make sure to take breaks and eat something. You won’t regret taking care of yourself, but you definitely will regret neglecting yourself.
