Student Funding and Opportunities

SmithGroup Scholarships
Established by the Detroit-based firm SmithGroup, these scholarships support one Master of Architecture student and one undergraduate B.S. Architecture student each year. Each scholarship provides tuition assistance and a paid summer internship. Application details are announced annually.

Albert Kahn Associates Fellowship
Established by the Detroit-based firm Albert Kahn Associates, this fellowship provides one Master of Architecture student with tuition support and a paid summer internship. Applications are accepted every other year when the fellowship is announced.

Longo International Architecture Internship Fund
This fund supports a summer internship for Master of Architecture students, offering practical professional experience and opportunities for global engagement. The internship is currently offered in partnership with Model of Architecture Serving Society (formerly MASS Design) in Kigali, Rwanda.

Architecture Student Research Grant (ASRG)
An annual competition to win funding for student research projects that push the boundaries and possibilities of the discipline of architecture. Open to teams of students as well as individuals in any of Taubman College’s architecture programs, ASRG winners also have the opportunity to display their work in an annual exhibition.

Brademas Endowment for Community Service
This financial award supports urban planning students working in summer internships with community-based organizations in Detroit.

Taubman College Student Show
Held at the end of each academic year, the show features outstanding design studio projects by undergraduate, graduate, and post-professional architecture students and undergraduate urban technology students. An external jury selects the featured work, and monetary prizes are awarded.

Willeke Design Prize
Taubman College’s oldest and most prestigious award for student work, this annual portfolio competition is judged by a group of leading alumni practitioners and is open to graduate and undergraduate architecture students. Monetary prizes are awarded.

Saarinen-Swanson Essay Competition
Open to all Taubman College students, this annual competition challenges participants to use writing to generate and disseminate ideas about architecture and planning. Winners are selected by a cross-college faculty committee and awarded financial prizes.

Wallenberg Studio Award
Each year the architecture program exhibits and judges the best work from the final undergraduate design studio, which honors the legacy of Taubman College alumnus Raoul Wallenberg. Winners are awarded a stipend for international travel to a country of the student’s choosing. 

Dow Sustainability Fellowship
Dow Sustainability Fellows make an impact through managing robust projects focusing on climate, circular economy, and other sustainability topics locally and globally. Open to graduate students, recipients receive competitive tuition support, work on projects focusing on climate, circular economy, and other sustainability topics locally and globally, and participate in co-curricular professional development programming.

Wallenberg Fellowship
The Wallenberg Fellowship is awarded to a graduating University of Michigan senior who is committed to service and the public good. The fellowship provides financial support to carry out an independent project of learning or exploration anywhere in the world during the year after graduation.

ULI Hines Competition
Be part of multidisciplinary teams of fellow Michigan students in one of the nation’s most well-known land use and real estate competitions.
