Design has long been a Detroit signature, and it is becoming a hallmark of the city’s East Side, where artists, architects, curators, planners, and entrepreneurs are building a vibrant cultural arts district. Anchored by The Shepherd, a new arts and culture institution in a refurbished church, the Little Village district hosts several arts organizations and businesses in a growing number of new and renovated buildings. OMA, OSD the Office of Strategy + Design, SO–IL, and Undecorated are among the architecture and landscape firms contributing, along with Taubman-College-affiliated practices 1+1+ Architects, Dash Marshall, M1DTW, and T+E+A+M.
