Claudia Heger

Claudia Heger (formerly Claudia Wigger) is a lecturer at the University of Michigan’s Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning, which she joined in 2011. She currently teaches core technical courses in construction, design studios, and seminars on urban density. Her research focuses on high-density housing and intense mixed-use developments. She has received the 2021 Donna M. Salzer Award for Teaching Excellence, awarded by the graduating master’s class.

Claudia has 20 years of experience as a licensed architect through collaborations and international consulting, including Foster and Partners and Sauerbruch Hutton in Berlin; RAD in Hong Kong; and Hamilton Anderson Associates in Detroit. Her professional experience spans small-scale interior projects, large-scale mixed-use buildings, and urban master plans. In 2008, Heger co-founded ICE—Ideas for Contemporary Environments, an architectural practice based in Detroit, Hong Kong, and Berlin. ICE’s design work has been featured in various international design publications, exhibitions, and digital media.

Claudia Heger holds a master’s degree (Dipl.-Ing.) from Technical University Berlin.
