Four Taubman Faculty on display at “DELECTRICITY” this weekend

Tsz Yan Ng, Karl Daubmann, John Marshall, and Joel Schmidt will present projects this weekend as part of DELECTRICITY ( DLECTRICITY will feature 35 projects incorporating various media such as light, video projection, interactivity, 3D video mapping, and other creative technologies, to explore how art and design exists within an urban environment.

Taubman faculty are involved in the following projects:

  • Project #2. StereoNegative (A Tribute to Tony Smith) by Tsz Yan Ng (with Helena Kang + Justin Kollar) – To mark the 40th anniversary of the sculpture Gracehoper by Tony Smith at the DIA, StereoNegative is both a tribute to the great sculptor and an installation project designed and produced specifically for the Dlectricity event.   • Project #11. Menotme by Karl Daubmann + John Marshall ( with Cézanne Charles) – menotme is a luminous, playful, responsive form activated by squeezing which causes it to purr, giggle, and burp and is designed to provoke public affection as a defense against post‑industrial anxiety. Read more…

DLECTRICITY is a new contemporary light art festival in the City of Detroit. For two nights, the historic architecture of Midtown will become the canvas for local, national, and international artists to display their cutting edge works of art. Over 35 projects will be shown including video projection, 3D video mapping, lasers, light sculpture, interactive design, performance, and more. The event is FREE to the public and open to all ages.
