Haar writes forward for new book on university architecture

Architecture chair Sharon Haar wrote the forward to a new book, “Remaking the American College Campus,” a collection of essays on the visions and realities of how architecture shapes and is shaped by university policies and priorities. Haar’s essay sets the stage for the texts that follow by introducing the university as a paradoxical site for intellectual freedom amid contested spaces, hoping for inclusion while grappling with an elitist past. Edited by Jonathan Silverman (UMass Lowell) and Meghan Sweeney (UNC Wilmington) and published by McFarland, the book will be available in the fall.
