Dimensions 39 honored with national award for student journals

The 39th volume of Taubman College’s student-produced architecture journal Dimensions has received the Douglas Haskell Award for Student Journals from the Center for Architecture and AIA New York. Dimensions was one of four recipients this year and one of two top-tier winners. This marks the journal’s second Haskell Award, following its first win in 2024 and an honorable mention in 2012.

Established in the late 1980s, the Haskell Award supports the ongoing publication of student-edited journals focused on architecture, planning, and related subjects. Named for architectural journalist and editor Douglas Haskell, the award seeks to cultivate a culture of intelligent criticism among future professionals through writing about architectural design, history, and theory.

Dimensions contributes to the critical discourse of architectural education by documenting compelling work across the Taubman College community, including that of students, faculty, fellows, and visiting lecturers. The 39th volume, themed [Dis]positions, considers architecture not as a static backdrop but as a set of dynamic conditions open to multiple interpretations. The volume invites readers to reorient their perspectives, both metaphorically and literally, through bold graphic choices that encourage engagement with its pages forward, backward, and even upside down.

Students can pick up their complimentary copy of Dimensions 39 during the public unveiling on Monday, Sept. 28, from 11:30 a.m.–12:50 p.m. in the Commons. Printed copies are also available for sale at dimensionsjournal.us.
