Diffusion Embassies

Diffusion Embassies explores the emerging world of diffusion models such as Midjourney, DALL-E, and Stable Diffusion. Using these text-to-image models, we generated various ‘drawings’ to start guiding the design process of the project. These sections and plans resemble architectural drawings from afar; through our trained eyes, we recognize elements such as poché, spaces, partitions, and other architectural notations. However, looking closely, it is obvious that they neither make sense nor are functional. We extract moments that catch our attention to incorporate into the building project through a 2D to 3D translation process. The building proposal is a Ukrainian embassy located in Vienna. Throughout many cities in Europe, we often see buildings arranged in a ‘bloc’ method, where we can see courtyards throughout the city in a figure-ground diagram. I attempted to produce this courtyard quality not in plan, but in the section. With the assistance of Midjourney, I was able to generate drawings with courtyard qualities to help design the project.
