Maria Arquero is an Assistant Professor in Architecture and Urban Planning in the University of Michigan, and founding partner of MAde Studio, a research-based design practice focused on the development of environmentally and culturally sound urban design practices. Her work focuses on the design, representation and use of public open space as a field of experimentation for the planning and design disciplines to devise new forms of civic engagement.

Originally from Spain, Maria is a licensed architect and urban designer. First in Europe, and subsequently in the US, Maria has engaged professional practice through interdisciplinary collaborations and as independent consultant in international settings such as Spain, Mexico, and Bahrain. Maria holds degrees in architecture and urbanism from the Madrid Polytechnic University, landscape architecture from the ETH Zurich, and urban design from Harvard University, GSD.
