Thenhaus selected for publication in two architecture magazines
Clark Thenhaus, Taubman College’s 2013/2014 Willard A. Oberdick Fellow, was recently selected for publication in upcoming issues of two architecture magazines.
Conditions Magazine, a publication out of Oslo, Norway, will feature a project titled, “Surface Gardens: Drawing Relief.” The project, which will appear later this year in “The End of the Beginning” Special Issue #13, is the culmination of experiments into material drawing translations and 2.5D shallow relief surfaces.
Chicago-based SOILED Magazine will feature “Star Gardens: Purple Hollow,” in its Issue #5 titled Cloudscrapers. This Thenhaus project considers the transformation of abandoned agrarian objects, namely grain silos, and re-activates them as cosmological vessels. A perforated dome caps the old silos in which the perforation patterns are derived from 20 constellations best viewed at various times of the year. The result is a kaleidoscopic array of light and shadow that transforms the interior of the utilitarian object to an atmospheric, immersive hollow.
