The Open Source Embassy

The Open Source Embassy envisions an extension to the existing US Embassy compound in Moscow, Russia, focused on cybersecurity diplomacy and education. Serving as the workspace for a new international cybersecurity task force, the embassy grounds itself in principles drawn from the Open Source movement: transparency, accessibility, and collaboration. The basement levels house a data center, providing the building with computing resources and a physical heat source while connecting the embassy as a node in Moscow’s robust digital landscape. Cooling towers cut through the building’s core and emerge as a landmark gesture evocative of Constructivist monumental infrastructure projects. On the interior, the cooling core guides a circulation interface that enables public viewing and access to cybersecurity policy, education, and infrastructural initiatives.
