Professor Borum and Associate Professor Daubmann awarded Progressive Architecture Award citation from Architect Magazine

“Outside In House,” a project of Ply Architecture with Architecture Professor Craig Borum and Associate Professor Karl Daubmann as co-principals, was honored with a 59th annual Progressive Architecture Award citation. The Progressive Architecture Awards recognize projects that offer thoughtful interventions into the landscape, urban or otherwise, embodying the working definition of “progressive.”

“Outside In House” transformed an active Midwestern farm into a weekend house for a single family of four in Three Oaks, Michigan. The 1,318-square-foot “Outside In House” incorporates undulating walls of vacuum-sealed “storm glass” tubes – an 18th-century weather-prediction device whose transparency varies depending on climactic conditions – to separate the interior rooms from a central courtyard.
