DESIGN EARTH’s ‘Planet After Geoengineering’ featured in Diriyah Art Futures exhibition
Work by DESIGN EARTH, a design research practice directed by Taubman College’s El Hadi Jazairy with Rania Ghosn, is now on display at Diriyah Art Futures in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, as part of its Of the Earth exhibition, running through May 16.
Curated by Irini Papadimitriou, Of the Earth explores the complex and entangled relationships between technology and the natural world, hybrid ecologies, and extractivism, as well as our own place within the vast networks that shape our planet. Bringing together works by more than 30 artists, the exhibition examines how technology reshapes our relationship with the natural world, revealing the material, environmental, and human infrastructures behind digital systems.
DESIGN EARTH’s “The Planet After Geoengineering” portrays Earth following the deployment of five speculative technologies. Through stunning animation, the film contextualizes our ambitions for planetary control against the backdrop of historical climate-control projects.
Opened in 2024 by the Saudi Ministry of Culture, Diriyah Art Futures is the first museum in the Gulf region designed exclusively for digital art.
