Paul Fontaine is an instructor in the urban and regional planning program, co – leading a Capstone project. Originally from New Jersey, Paul has worked on a variety of projects throughout N. America ranging in scale from a single house, to authoring a visioning plan for more than 300 square miles. In the classroom, Paul is leading an effort to combine existing graduate and undergraduate level outreach efforts to provide Michigan communities access to the expertise and capacity to help them keep pace with the knowledge based economy. His professional interests combine historic preservation, brown field redevelopment, land preservation, and high density design with the goal preserving existing green spaces while making our communities stronger and healthier places to live. Before creating his own strategic planning firm in Ann Arbor, Fontaine was SmithGroup's first principal level Urban Designer. Paul has a Masters in Urban and Regional Planning from Columbia University.
