Dr. Lidia P. Kostyniuk is a Research Scientist at the University of Michigan Transportation Institute and an Adjunct Professor of Urban Planning at the University of Michigan. Her professional career spans 30 years and has included research, teaching, and consulting in the area of transportation behavior, planning, and safety. Dr. Kostyniuk's research interests include use of naturalistic driving data in exploration of travel behavior, risky driving behaviors, evaluation of effects of traffic safety laws and enforcement programs, and mobility of special populations. Her recent research concerned with mobility of older persons has included investigation of the driving reduction and cessation process, and the role of adult children in the mobility of older persons.

Recent publications include Societal Costs of Traffic Crashes and Crime in Michigan: 2011 Update. (UMTRI Report No. 2011-21) and Safe Mobility of Older Drivers: Concerns Expressed by Adult Children, published in Topics in Geriatric Rehabilitation (2009).

Dr. Kostyniuk is a member of the Gerontological Society of America, American Society of Civil Engineers, Sigma Xi and is a fellow of the Institute of Transportation Engineers. She is a member of the editorial advisory boards of the journals Transportation, Accident Analysis and Prevention, and the Journal of Safety Research.
