- Construction
Harry Giles teaches structures at the graduate level and is an adviser in the PhD program in the area of Building Technolgy. He also practices as a design, materials and structural engineering consultant on diverse large building and small experimental projects as HGDesign+Technology.
Research interests are in new typologies for load-bearing cladding systems; composite, fabric and sustainable materials; non linear spatial structures and shell surface composite skin structures; multi-physics applications related to structural and thermal interactions as well as low energy passive strategies in buildings and component design ; industrialized manufacturing of prefabricated modular buildings.
He is also runs collaborative teaching workshops through research, with the departments of Civil and Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and School of Natural Resources and Environment, using interdisciplinary studio based design methods as a creative model for technical inquiry.
