Amy Catania Kulper is an assistant professor of architecture at the University of Michigan Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning, where she teaches theory and design. Kulper has taught at institutions including Cambridge University, The University of Pennsylvania, University of California Los Angeles, and Southern California Institute of Architecture. For the 2010-2011 academic year she is the Steelcase Research Professor at the University of Michigan's Humanities Institute, working on a book manuscript entitled Immanent Natures: The Laboratory as Paradigm for Architectural Production. She is a three-time recipient of the Donna M. Salzer Award for teaching excellence. Kulper is an editorial board member of the Journal of Architectural Education and the journal's design editor.

Kulper has chapters published in Experiments: Architecture Between Sciences and the Arts, Intimate Metropolis: Urban Subjects in the Modern City, and Visions of the Industrial Age: Modernity and the Anxiety of Representation in European Culture, 1830-1914. Her articles appear in the Journal of Architecture, Candide: Journal of Architectural Knowledge, and Filed: Journal for Architecture. Kulper has presented papers internationally, on topics including "Walking on Air: Architecture's Immaterial Imagination" at St. Andrews, Scotland; "Experimental Divide: The Laboratory as Analog for Architectural Production" at an ETH symposium in Hamburg, Germany; and "Ask the Expert: The Role of Technique in the Quantification of Disciplinary Knowledge," at the Third International Alvar Aalto Meeting on the Research of Modern Architecture at the The Alvar Aalto Academy in Jyväskylä, Finland.

Kulper's current research explores the conceptualization of the natural world in the context of a discipline whose divided institutional legacy frames the natural either as an applied science or a fine art. Kulper holds masters' degrees from both the University of Pennsylvania and Cambridge and a Ph.D. in the history and philosophy of architecture from Cambridge University.
